KritiK was formed back in the early 2000's in Gonzales, LA. Originating from the brainchild of singer Todd Varnado, along with the musical composition of bass player Dustin Ourso. Todd and Dustin worked together around this time and began to talk about the common interested they had for playing music. Most importantly writing origninal tunes to express themselves.
Todd and Dustin spent a lot of time working on laying the foundation for an album. Todd had a head full of lyrics that he needed to get out and Dustin would sit with him and put down the rhythms to those ideas.
As these songs developed, Todd started pulling together some of his friends that played instruments to help bring the album to life. At this time, Chris Lewis, played bass, and Grant Duplessis played drums. Dustin was playing guitar. The album started to develop between practicing at an old recording studio out in Reserve, LA and Dustin's house out in St. Amant, LA. Songs started coming together pretty quick. Everything seemed to be gelling, but not long after Chris left the band.
Amid Chris' decision to leave the band, they had to do some restructuring to keep things going. Dustin then reached out to Jimmy Page Matherne, a good friend from high school, and Shane Castille, Dustin's cousin. Jimmy and Shane then shared lead guitar responsibilities as Dustin moved to bass. This line up ran together for quite some time until there was some internal conflict. This conflict led to Grant exiting the band. So, at this point they were on the search for a drummer. Along came Jory Chauvin and instantly magic happened.
Jory, being a seasoned musician, came in and nailed the drum parts and became an instant fit. It was at this time the guys decided it was time to release an album. So, they booked some time at Sock-It studios in Baton Rouge to produce their self titled album. The album did pretty well around the local scene and KritiK was getting steady gigs at a lot of local bars.
The band was showing a ton of potential and a growing fan base, but tensions within the band were growing once again. Which enviably led to the band dissolving.
25 years later, all the members still talk and are good friends. With some recent turn of events, there seems to be a fire lit under everyone's belly again. With this reignited interest, the guys have decided to officially release the album for the first time. As well as plans to start writing some new music.
